PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Freshman Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team was named co-Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week after winning the discus throw at the Drake Relays (April 23), the conference office announced on Wednesday (April 28). She shares the honor with Penn State's Karlee McQuillen.
Her selection marks the first time in her career that she has been honored and the first time a Wolverine has earned the distinction this season.
Pendleton picked up her first event win of the 2010 outdoor season this past weekend, coming through with a 52.68-meter (172-10) throw in the discus to grab first place. Her victory marked the second consecutive season that a Wolverine has won the discus at the Drake Relays, as her sister, junior Emily Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore), took top honors last season.
U-M is back in action this weekend, heading to the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State and the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford. The majority of the Wolverines will travel to the two-day Jesse Owens Classic (Fri-Sat., April 30-May 1), while freshman Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) and junior Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) run at Stanford on Saturday (May 1).
