
Botterman, Curtis Share MVP Honors at Annual Awards Banquet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics program held its annual awards banquet on Friday night (April 30) at the Ann Arbor Polo Fields Golf and Country Club, celebrating the 2010 team and its accomplishments. Headlining the banquet were All-Americans senior Sarah Curtis (Reno, Nev./Reno) and junior Kylee Botterman (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central), who shared the Most Valuable Performer award, and junior Trish Wilson (Naperville, Ill./Nequa Valley), who took home the Unsung Hero Award and the 10.0 Spirit Club Award.
Curtis has earned a share of the Most Valuable Performer award in each of her three seasons of full competition, while Botterman has received a share of the honor in each of the last two campaigns. Wilson has captured the 10.0 Spirit Club Award in each of the last two seasons as well.

Six-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Year finalist Natalie Beilstein (Butler, Pa./Knoch) earned the program's Newcomer of the Year award after a sensational season of winning a Big Ten and Regional event title and competing in the individual event finals at NCAAs. Michigan's seniors cleaned up the remaining awards with Maureen Moody (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) earning the team's Coaches Award, All-American Kelsey Knutson (Ames, Iowa/Ames) taking home the Leadership Award, All-American Jordan Sexton (Weddington, N.C./Weddington) winning her second straight Most Improved award and Jaclyn Kramer (West Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) securing the Scholar Athlete Award for the team's top GPA for the second year in a row.
The program also announced the recipients of the prestigious Donald R. Shepherd scholarships. Curtis was named the recipient for the Donald R. Shepherd Scholarship for Women's Gymnastics, while Sexton will receive the Donald R. Shepherd Women's Gymnastics Spirit Scholarship.
Michigan captured the program's 18th Big Ten title and advanced to its 17th NCAA Championships in the last 18 years, finishing 10th in the nation in 2010. Six Wolverines earned seven All-America honors, while the coaching staff received NCAA Northeast Regional Head Coach of the Year honors (Beverly Plocki) and NCAA Northeast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year honors (Scott Sherman). Two of Michigan's five seniors, Curtis and Sexton, will return to the Wolverines for a fifth year of eligibility in the 2011 season.
