ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Battling high winds and scattered rain over the course of the event, the University of Michigan women's track and field picked up five victories at the two-day Len Paddock Invitational this weekend (Fri-Sat., May 7-8) at Ferry Field.
In the 800-meter run, junior Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) came from behind to edge Eastern Michigan's Lauren Quaintance by six-hundredths of a second for the win. Entering the final 200 meters, Tauro steadily closed the gap with a surge to the finish, crossing in 2:15.27.
Senior Shana Vinson (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) won the final event of the meet, the 200-meter dash (24.12), and picked up a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.75), the first time she has ran that race this season.
Junior Jennifer Neville (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) won the 400-meter dash in 56.94, while sophomore Alexandria Williams (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) finished fourth (57.75) and freshman Rebecca Addison (Spring Haven, Mich./Grand Haven), running the quarter mile for the first time this season, placed sixth (58.30).
In the field, the Wolverine dominance in the discus continued as junior Emily Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) was victorious with a throw of 54.86 meters (180-00). Freshman Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) took second with a toss of 51.58 meters (169-03) and junior/sophomore Allison Liske (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East) finished fourth (43.21 meters, 141-09).
Liske threw a season-best 15.66 meters (51-04.50) in the shot put to lead a Michigan 1-2-3 in the event. Emily Pendleton finished second with a mark of 14.10 meters (46-03.25), while junior/sophomore Danica Haight (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) rounded out the top Wolverine finishers with a third-place showing (13.45 meters, 44-01.50).
The Wolverines are back in action next week, heading to Bloomington, Ind., for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. The three-day event begins on Friday (May 14) and runs through Sunday (May 16).

The women teamed up with the men to help raise breast cancer and prostate cancer awareness. Both teams wore special t-shirts, with the men wearing light blue for prostate cancer and the women wearing pink for breast cancer awareness. Event winners also received a t-shirt.
Friday's action was cut short due to severe weather in the area. The 400-meter hurdles and 1,500-meter run, both originally scheduled for Friday, were pushed to Saturday morning. The triple jump, which started on Friday afternoon, was completed on Saturday morning as well.
The pole vault was contested inside on Friday night, due to lightning in the area. Pole vault is the only outdoor event that can be held inside.
U-M has won the discus in every invitational this season. Emily Pendleton has won the event five times, while Erin Pendleton has won it two times.
Rachel Severin, Alysha Valencia, Shana Vinson, Christina Solomon, Abbey Breidenstein, Teleicia Rose, Jenny Morgan, Ashley Greer and Carly Schiffer all participated in their final home event as Wolverines.
