PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan women's basketball senior guard Veronica Hicks (Chicago, Ill./Thornwood) earned her first career Big Ten Player of the Week honor after recording 21 points and 10 rebounds in a Michigan win over Wisconsin on Sunday (Jan.16). The conference award is the first for a Wolverine this season.
Hicks tallied her first double-double of the season in the Wolverines' game against Wisconsin in Michigan's lone contest of the week. The senior guard played all 40 minutes of the contest and finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs. Hicks' 21 points marked her second consecutive game with 20 or more points and was her fourth game scoring in double figures in U-M's last five games. A three-year starter, Hicks is Michigan's second-leading scorer this season with 11.4 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game.
The Wolverines travel to Northwestern for a Big Ten contest on Thursday (Jan. 20). Tipoff is set for 8 pm. CST at Northwestern's Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill. Fans can listen on WTKA AM 1050 and can also watch on www.BigTenNetwork.com.
