Overall thoughts on the game ... "Well it's good to score against a team that doesn't allow goals. That team has only allowed five goals in six games, and we knew goals would be precious and maybe that's why we played a little more opportunistic or maybe we played a little better defensively. It was important to get goals on this team."
On what was working tonight ... "I can't tell you it was any great execution. It was shots finding their way into the back of the net, second efforts on loose pucks, and a little bit of puck luck. But if you have the puck in their zone, things will happen."
On how the team played in its own zone ... "Five-on-five in the zone we were really good at times and then not so good at times. They're a good team down low on our end. Their defensemen are like forwards -- they jump into the play. There's a lot of activity and anytime our forwards maybe got too mesmerized by the puck or too out of sync defensively, they got some good point shots. We liked our game, we liked most of our game, but there will be things that we have to do better."
On playing with more patience ... "I can't tell you we were more patient. I think we're getting a little more confident with the puck and a little more confident in our game. The more games you play, your game should be improving. And just subtle, little things, but I thought we had more players play better tonight."
U-M Senior Forward David Wohlberg
On what was working on the power play ... "Just getting the puck to the net really. A lot of traffic in front is something we preach, so that really helped us out. The goalie couldn't see much, and as Red says, what the goalie can't see he can't save, so we were just getting pucks on net and not letting him see it."
On scoring on a penalty kill unit that has been so strong this year ... "We watched what they did on the penalty kill in our power-play meetings and it felt pretty good. You see their numbers, and they are pretty good on the kill. We're going to look forward to coming back tomorrow and do the same thing hopefully."
On Chris Brown's pass to Phil Di Giuseppe on a two-on-zero, empty-net goal ... "It says that we're teammates. Guys respect each other on the ice, and that's just something that an older guy does that maybe a younger guy picks up on and later in the season he does it. It was good to see a good team effort there and I was happy to see it."
U-M Sophomore Forward Derek DeBlois
On feeling fatigue on a short week of practice ... "No, I think we're in pretty good shape at this time of the season after getting a few games under our belt, so we felt good coming into the weekend; we didn't have that hard of a week with only three practices. We felt pretty good and we're fortunate to come out with a win."
On what worked better in the latter periods ... "It's all about the dumps. We weren't really skating into the zone that well so we were just getting pucks by their defense, working hard. Good things happen when you go to the net and that's what happened."
