
Bernstein, King Eliminated from Doubles at ITA All-American Event

TULSA, Okla. -- Sophomore Shaun Bernstein (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview Old Bethpage JFK HS) and junior Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan HS) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team were eliminated from the doubles qualifying round at the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 4) at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Bernstein was also eliminated from the singles qualifying competition.
Bertstein and King suffered their first defeat of the season, dropping an 8-6 decision to Oklahoma's Tsvetan Mihov and Peerakit Siributwong in the event's opening doubles round. The Wolverine duo, ranked No. 33 in the ITA preseason poll, built up an early 3-0 advantage and later led 6-5, before Mihov and Siributwong rallied to claim the last three games.
In his first appearance in the ITA qualifying singles competition, Bernstein lost his opening-round match to UCLA's Marcos Giron, 6-1, 6-4, and dropped his consolation contest against Texas' Soren Hess-Olsen, 6-1, 6-3.
King, who earned 2011 ITA All-America honors, earned an automatic selection into the ITA All-American Championships singles main draw, which begins Thursday (Oct. 6). The 64-player main draw bracket will be announced Wednesday evening.
