Michigan suffers its first loss of the season and moves to 7-1 overall. U-M also drops its first game in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and is now 4-1 in the showcase. The 7-1 mark is Kevin Borseth's best start as head coach of the Wolverines. No U-M women's basketball team has started the season 8-0.
Tonight's game was the first meeting between Michigan and Maryland. The Wolverines move to 100-61 when facing teams for the first time.
Michigan's loss evens its all-time record to 10-10 against teams out of the ACC.
Michigan faced its first ranked opponent (No. 6 Maryland) this season and is now 26-140 against teams in the top 25 and 0-8 versus team ranked sixth in the poll.
U-M extended its three-point shooting streak to 166 consecutive games. The last time Michigan did not hit a three-pointer was during the 2005-2006 season.
Overall, Michigan shot 39.7 percent (25-of-63) from the field. U-M shot 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from three-point range and was perfect (6-of-6) from the free throw line for the second time this season.
As a team, U-M posted a season-low seven turnovers, scored 14 points on Maryland turnovers, 11 second-chance points and was scoreless on fast breaks.
Courtney Boylan led the Wolverines for a third consecutive game in scoring with 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting while hauling in five rebounds. She has tallied double figures in scoring in all eight games this season.
Jenny Ryan led U-M with seven rebounds, matching her seven points on the night. Ryan has led Michigan on the boards in four games.
Carmen Reynolds posted 15 points (5-of-10) and hit all her points from behind the arc (5-of-9) in tonight's game. Reynolds now needs 29 points for 1,000 for her career.
Rachel Sheffer scored 14 points (5-of-13) to go along with one rebound and has scored in double figures in 10 of the last 14 games dating back to last season.
Michigan went with the starting lineup of Courtney Boylan, Nicole Elmblad, Jenny Ryan, Carmen Reynolds and Rachel Sheffer. This was the eighth consecutive game U-M began with this combination.
