Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "I liked the way we played. I told you last night, I thought we played well last night and the puck wasn't going in their end, but it was going in our end. Tonight, give the team credit. We didn't give up anything and I thought we played a strong game."
On the importance of the defensive play tonight ... "I think this is great. It's a great confidence builder for our defense and for our goalie and our team. To come into a place like this and shut them out. And I don't know if we've ever done that up here. So good for this team, especially with our backs against the wall like we've had lately. They've got to feel great, so good for them. It was a lot of hard work. I thought everybody played really hard."
On Hunwick's play tonight ... "I thought he was rock solid. You need your goalie to be a factor anytime you win a game on the road. But anytime you shut a team out, you've had a good game. And he did have a good game. And his defense played better in front of him and his team played better. But he still was the bottom line and he earned that."
U-M Freshman Forward Alex Guptill
On his overtime goal ... "The puck was in the corner and it came out to me and I was contemplating whether to dump it in or not. I ended up trying to beat the guy and I got kind of lucky when it bounced right back to me and I just kind of shot it. I didn't even know it went in. I saw everybody celebrating and then I knew it went in."
On snapping the five-game losing streak ... "It's huge. We were getting really down, we just weren't sure if we could win. It was a really long streak, but it's over now. Now it we know what it feels like to win again and I think we can go on a real streak now, winning."
U-M Fifth Year Senior Shawn Hunwick
On the importance of tonight's win ... "Obviously it's nice to be able to win a game on the road. It's our first win (on the road) and we had a real bad stretch going there. At the same time it's only one win, but it's nice to get that win."
On how the team played in front of him ... "They did a huge job. They were clearing guys out so I could see the shots from the point. Alaska likes to take a lot of shots from the point and drive the net. We did a good job tonight of eliminating screens and tips. Recently, we've been turning the puck over too much and we played solid defensively today. Hopefully, we can carry this forward."
