
Wolverines Win Five in Outdoor Debut at Bulls Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. -- In its 2011 outdoor debut, the University of Michigan women's track and field team picked up five event wins on Friday (March 18) at South Florida's Bulls Invitational held at the USF Track and Field Stadium.
Michigan won three events in the field to go along with two on the track on the day. In the first discus action of the year, sophomore Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) won the event with a throw of 51.89 meters (170-03) while placing fourth in the hammer throw (48.85 meters, 160-03). Redshirt sophomore Tofunmi Akeredolu (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup) took top honors in the long jump with a mark of 5.73 meters (18-09.75).
In her first action of the 2011 season, redshirt junior captain Allison Liske (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East) won the shot put with a throw of 14.81 meters (48-07.25).
Switching to the track, sophomore Kaitlyn Patterson (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) grabbed Michigan's first race win, crossing the line in 9:51.83 to grab first place in the 3,000-meter run. Junior Alexandria Williams (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) won the 400-meter hurdles to round out the event winners, finishing in 1:00.99.
The Wolverines complete their Florida swing tomorrow (Saturday, March 19) with the UCF Black and Gold Challenge in Orlando. The javelin will kick things off at 9 a.m.

Today's meet was the first of the outdoor season for the Wolverines.
The distance runners are only competing today. Michigan will only run sprints and participate in field events tomorrow.
Michigan alum Shana Vinson (2007-10) won the 400-meter dash, competing unattached.
Allison Liske competed for the first time in 2011 after redshirting during the indoor season.
