SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Senior Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) recorded the 12th-fastest national time in the mile as a small group of University of Michigan women's track and field athletes competed at the Alex Wilson Invitational this weekend (Fri-Sat., March 4-5) at the Loftus Center.
With the Wolverines trying to improve times and marks for NCAA consideration, Tauro ran her fastest time of the season in the mile today (Saturday, March 5), clocking in at 4:38.77. With Caitlin Lane of Penn State finishing just ahead of her in 4:38.37, Tauro moves into 12th place on the national list before all of this weekend's last-chance meet results are recorded. Freshman Taylor Pogue (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich) was unable to improve her time, finishing in 5:00.11.
Sophomore Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) also competed at the event yesterday (Friday, March 4), finishing fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 18.08 meters (59-4). Her top mark this season was 18.93 meters (62-1), putting her 41st in the country.
The Wolverines will now await word on NCAA selections, announced on Monday (March 7). The distance medley relay team, along with sophomores Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) and Jillian Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) in the 800-meter run, have all automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships, held March 11-12 at Texas A&M University.
