EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Redshirt freshman Kiley Tobel (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Western) finished runner-up in the pole vault as the University of Michigan women's track and field team took a small group of athletes to the Spartan Invitational on Saturday (April 2) at the Ralph Young Track and Field Complex.

Tobel, one of three Wolverines competing in uniform, cleared an outdoor season-best 3.79 meters (12-5 1/4) to take second in the pole vault. Fifth-year senior Andrea Marcos (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) placed fourth in the event with a clearance of 3.54 meters (11-7 1/4). U-M's pole vaulters were the only athletes competing in uniform for Michigan at the invitational.

Michigan had two runners competing unattached in the 1,500-meter run, with redshirt freshman Courtney Clancy (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) placing 22nd (4:57.25) and junior Nicole Prince (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) finishing 25th (5:02.48).

Redshirt freshman Liz Sherzer (Battle Creek, Mich./St. Philip Catholic) rounded out Michigan's participants, competing in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump, javelin and shot put. Sherzer recorded her best finish of the day in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 17.35 for ninth place.

The Wolverines head west next weekend (Thu-Sat., April 7-9) for the Joyner/Johnson Invitational at UCLA. The heptathlon will kick things off at 10 a.m. PDT on Thursday.
