SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Freshman Alyssa Shimel's (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood) three-over 75 and senior Min Yean Tan's (Penang Island, Malaysia/Hills International College [Australia]) four-over 76 paced the University of Michigan women's golf team to a 307 second-round team total today (Friday, May 6) as U-M moved up to 17th after 36 holes of the NCAA Central Regional at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course. U-M opened play yesterday (Thursday, May 5) with a 316 and currently holds a 623 two-round total.
Starting in the morning wave off the 10th tee, Shimel paced the early play for U-M, posting two birdies in five holes and making the turn at one under. On the front side, she had four bogeys in nine holes but led U-M with her three-over 75. After opening with an 80 yesterday, Shimel is tied for 52nd at 155.
Following an opening 85 in yesterday's first round, Tan posted four bogeys in her first six holes of the second round before going one under in her next seven holes. An additional bogey pushed her back to four over, where she stayed. With a 161 tally, Tan sits tied for 96th.
After leading U-M with a 75 in the first round, junior Meagan Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) followed with a 79 to remain the Wolverines' top individual on the leaderboard at 154, putting her in a tie for 48th. Rounding out the Wolverine starters after 36 holes include freshman Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County) tied for 80th at 159 (82-77) and sophomore Caramia Sitompul (Jakarta, Indonesia/Bradenton Prep Academy [Bradenton, Fla.]) tied for 99th at 162 (79-83).
The Wolverines conclude the central regional Saturday (May 7), heading off the 10th tee at 12:30 p.m. with Illinois and Oklahoma State. From regional, the top eight teams and top two individuals advance to the NCAA Championships, to be held Wednesday through Saturday, May 18-21, at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.

Michigan is making its ninth (team and individual) NCAA postseason regional in the last 11 years. Overall, U-M has eight of its nine appearances at the central regional.
Michigan will have played all three rounds with Big Ten mate Illinois.
Meagan Bauer, Caramia Sitompul, Alyssa Shimel and Yugene Lee are all playing in their first NCAA postseason event. Min Yean Tan is in her second.
