EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team and Michigan State played for 19:22 today (Saturday, Aug. 20), before lightning and heavy rain cancelled the exhibition game at Ralph Young Field.
U-M and MSU started early trying to avoid the rain, but lightning in the area forced the teams off the field and heavy storms cancelled play for the day.
Michigan had the only shot and penalty corner in 20 minutes of action. Senior Bryn Bain (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) fired a shot from the top of the circle off the corner, but it was saved by MSU goalkeeper Molly Cassidy.
Michigan now turns its attention to the start of the 2011 regular season. U-M hosts North Carolina this Saturday (Aug. 27) at 2 p.m. on the first day of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Ocker Field.
