Michigan took game one of this weekend's CCHA series, earning a 4-1 victory over the visiting Miami RedHawks, and improved its all-time record against MU to 70-26-4.
The win snapped a five-game winless streak against Miami, dating back to March 19, 2010, in the CCHA playoffs.
Michigan now sits in a tie for sixth place in the CCHA standings with 35 points. The Wolverines are four points behind first-place Western Michigan and just nine points separate first from ninth in the conference rankings.
A.J. Treais led the way offensively for the Wolverines, posting two goals and five shots. Treais now has 11 goals on the season and and is tied with David Wohlberg, who appeared in his 150th career game tonight, for second on the team.
Defenseman Jon Merrill paced Michigan with two assists.It marked the third two-assist effort that Merrill has turned in since re-joining the Wolverines in January.
Chris Brown and Luke Moffatt chipped in with one goal apiece in the victory.
Defenseman Greg Pateryn skated in his 130th career contest for Michigan.
Goaltender Shawn Hunwick, who earlier today was named the Hockey Commissioners' Association National Player of the Month for January, turned aside 24-of-25 shots for his 16th win of the season. Michigan found the back of the net four times on 24 shots against Cody Reichard (20:00) and Connor Knapp (40:00).
The Wolverine power play notched two goals for the second straight game, finishing the contest 2-for-5 with the man-advantage. Miami was held scoreless on six power-play chances.
