Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game overall ... "At the start we were concerned whether we would be a little rusty having two weeks to get ready for this game. I thought our team jumped out well, and it was good to get that first goal."
On quick start ... "I think we had the momentum in the first period. Then in the second period they had the momentum. Most of the second period was played in our zone. They bounced back with a strong period. We were lucky, it was a crossbar, the post, (Shawn) Hunwick and with just a couple of bounces it could have been a different game. We got an important goal, that fourth goal was an important goal."
On playing a more physical game ... "We are an honest team. We can play in any kind of game, and I thought we did tonight."
On the improving penalty kill ... "We will look at it on tape, but I thought there were some real good parts to it. There were some other parts where our goalie had to be the best penalty killer."
On Jon Merrill being a catalyst for the power play ... "He definitely gives us another puck handling defensemen. He is a big part of it. I think it is a little bit of everything. At Notre Dame it was the other unit who scored the two goals and then tonight it was this unit. It is good we are getting some balance, some confidence and some momentum. Jon Merrill makes a difference."
U-M Junior Forward A.J Treais
On how the team adjusted to Miami's goalie change ... "They're both really good. (Cody) Reichard won goalie of the year a couple years ago, and (Connor) Knapp is really big and they're both good goalies so it's going to be really hard to score on them."
On concerns of the physicality of tomorrow's game ... "This is CCHA hockey. So, I think we expect that, we can play in games like that. We may not be the biggest team in the league, but we can hang with those guys."
U-M Sophomore Forward Luke Moffatt
On Michigan having only one shot in the second period ... "We had way too many penalties in the second, basically a special teams period throughout. Penalty killers grinding it out, played great. We were able to hold them to only one goal and we just didn't get that many opportunities offensively."
On the importance of winning the physical battle ... "It was a big start for us getting that first goal and being able to take a tickle the twine three times in the first, but just starting off banging bodies it was a great start for us. It shows us that we're better than this team, we're stronger, and we continued that through the rest of the game."
