Michigan Head Coach Matt Anderson
On the game ... "Some people were able to get an opportunity to score the ball. We played much better in the shallow end than I expected. We played very well in the first quarter, the first half actually. That allowed us to play a lot of people. All and all, we had 24 people in the water, so that was good."
On playing in a shallow-deep pool ... "You have to change. When you're in the four-and-half foot end, and then you're in a 10-foot end, it's very easy to naturally want to put your foot on the bottom. And that's what they (officials) look for. Now, we tell the players they need to play the game horizontally. Our girls did a good job of playing horizontally in the shallow end rather than automatically dropping their feet and feeling the bottom. Since it's the first time in three or four years we played in the shallow end, they didn't know anything different except to play horizontally on the water. I think we only had one off the bottom call. So, that was a positive that they adjusted like that."
On Gannon's defense and the ability to score goals early ... "It was purely our counter attack. Kelsey Nolan got out a couple of quick hammers to start the game. When you're coming to a different size pool, the bottom line is, you still can out-swim the person. I think the ladies were so afraid of possibly playing tentative that they swam hard from the start, especially Kelsey (Nolan) and Kiki (Golden). And that's how we got majority of our goals, just getting down quicker than they did to other end of the pool. We shot on the deep end first, so that allowed us to open up quick and score a quick four goals."
