
Mikulak, Team USA Take Fifth at Olympic Team Finals

LONDON, England -- University of Michigan junior men's gymnast Sam Mikulak (Corona del mar, Calif./Corona del Mar) took part in the Olympic Team finals Monday (July 30), competing on four events for the fifth-place Team USA squad, which notched a team total of 269.952.
Mikulak's top event of the day was vault, where he took 10th overall and earned a 15.966. His day began on floor exercise, where he collected a 14.600 to take 19th, and he then tallied a team-leading 14.500 on pommel horse, which was good for 16th. In his final event of the competition, Mikulak scored a 15.266 to take 12th on the event.
China took home the gold medal with a 275.997, while Japan took silver with a 271.952. Host nation Great Britain rounded out the medal winners with a 271.711.
Mikulak will compete in the individual event finals for vault after taking fourth in qualifying. The finals are slated for Monday, Aug. 6, at 10:41 a.m.
