Jaeger Clinches Spot in 1,500m Freestyle Olympic Final

LONDON, England -- At the London Olympics on Friday (Aug. 3), University of Michigan junior men's swimmer Connor Jaeger (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) earned a spot in the 1,500-meter freestyle final with a time of 14:57.56, qualifying seventh overall.
Jaeger, making his first Olympic appearance, took third in heat three of the race behind Canada's Ryan Cochrane (14:49.31) and Korea's Taehwan Park (14:56.89). Swimming in third the majority of the race, Jaeger passed Park with three laps remaining, before Park ultimately bested the U-M swimmer on the final pool length.
Jaeger is seeking to become the first U-M swimmer since Chris Thompson in 2000 to medal in the race (Thompson took bronze) and third all-time to medal (James Christy took bronze in 1932).
He will swim for a medal Saturday (Aug. 4) at 2:36 p.m.
