URBANA, Ill. -- Senior Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan Prep) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team fell in three sets to No. 41 Japie De Klerk of Tulsa (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship on Saturday (May 25) at the University of Illinois' Atkins Tennis Complex.
King broke De Klerk in his first serving game, eventually taking a 3-0 lead. De Klerk held in the set's fourth game, and King took a 30-15 lead in the fifth game when rain halted the match.
The match resumed about an hour later indoors with King holding a 3-1 advantage in the first set. The Wolverine senior held for a 4-1 lead, and the two exchanged holds of serve the rest of the way for a 6-3 King victory.
In the second, both players stayed on serve until De Klerk broke King for a 5-3 lead. De Klerk won the final game of the set, taking a 6-3 win to send the match to a third set.
De Klerk broke King for a 4-2 advantage in the final set and won the final two games for a 6-2 third-set win for the match.
For King, he ends his illustrious Michigan career with a 116-34 singles record and is U-M's all-time leader in combined doubles and singles wins with 195.

• Senior Evan King had his 15-match win streak snapped.
• With the loss, King finished with a 32-5 singles record on the season. The Wolverine senior went 23-1 during the dual-match portion of Michigan's schedule.
• King represented U-M at the NCAA Individual Championships for the third year in a row. He finished with a 5-3 all-time record in the singles field.
• King owns the U-M program record for most combined career singles and doubles wins with 195 (116 singles, 79 doubles).
• King earned one of the possible 45 at-large selections to the 64-player NCAA singles field.
• Each match at the NCAA Individual Championships is best of three sets. Scoring is the same as in dual matches, but a 12-point tiebreaker will be used.
