Michigan opened its 93rd season on Saturday night at old CCHA rival Ferris State. The Wolverines began the season with a road game for the first time in 13 years, when Michigan opened with the Cold War at Spartan Stadium against Michigan State (T, 3-3) on Oct. 6, 2001.
Michigan played its 31st season opener with head coach Red Berenson behind the bench on Saturday. The Wolverines fell to 21-6-4 in season-opening games in the Berenson era.
Michigan fell to 68-30-4 in the all-time series against Ferris State. Michigan is 24-20-4 all-time at Ferris State and is 0-2-1 in its last three games at Ewigleben Arena.
Michigan freshmen forwards Dexter Dancs and Dylan Larkin and freshman defenseman Zach Werenski made their Michigan debuts tonight at Ferris State. Werenski notched his first collegiate point with a secondary assist on Travis Lynch's third period goal.
Sophomore forward Tyler Motte scored against brother CJ Motte of Ferris State, one year after CJ stopped Tyler in a shootout in a 2-2 tie on Dec. 11, 2013, at Yost Ice Arena. Tyler Motte led the Wolverines with four blocked shots on the night.
Senior forward Travis Lynch scored his first goal since Dec. 27, 2013, against Western Michigan in the Great Lakes Invitational, snapping a 20-game goal-scoring drought.
Junior forward Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves added an assist on Evan Allen's third-period goal and now has 13 points (2G, 11A) in his last 11 games dating back to last season.
