
Michigan Takes Out Bucknell Behind Goree's Double-Double

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team had four players score in double figures and used a 10-0 second-half run to defeat Bucknell, 68-61, Sunday afternoon (Nov. 16) inside Crisler Center.
Freshman Katelynn Flaherty led Michigan in scoring with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. Senior Cyesha Goree recorded her second straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Siera Thompson and senior Nicole Elmblad had 13 and 12 points, respectively. Elmblad added eight rebounds while Thompson dished out five assists.
The Wolverines relinquished their lead at the beginning of the second half but went on the 10-0 run, capped by senior Shannon Smith's jumper with 14:54 remaining, giving the Maize and Blue a 48-39 advantage. The Bison cut the lead to three at 9:41, but a lefty lay-in from Flaherty, followed by two Elmblad free throws upped Michigan's lead back to seven points, 54-47, with 8:50 left in the contest.
Junior Madison Ristovski's three-pointer with 5:40 left nudged Michigan's lead to nine points. Flaherty's jumper at 2:36 made it 65-56. Bucknell was as close as six points late, but Goree's two free throws with 18 seconds left pushed the lead back to nine.
Michigan put together a 15-1 run over a five-minute span early in the first half to take a 22-8 lead off a Goree layup in transition with 11:50 remaining. Bucknell responded by scoring nine straight points to cut the U-M lead to five, 22-17, with 7:09 left. Elmblad stopped the run with a layup at the 6:13 mark but the teams continued to trade baskets the rest of the half.
Thompson led all scorers with 13 points at the half as Michigan took a 35-34 lead into the locker room. Flaherty went for eight points and Goree chipped in six points and three rebounds. Both teams shot 50.0 percent from the floor in the first half, with Bucknell connecting on 14-of-28 shots and Michigan hitting 13-of-26.
The Wolverines shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the floor and 7-of-13 from three-point range. Michigan had 14 assists on the day and blocked four shots, three from Goree.
U-M hits the road for its next contest, traveling to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers on Thursday (Nov. 20) at 7 p.m.
