ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan rowing team announced its complete 2014-15 schedule today (Wednesday, Sept. 10), beginning with the team's first fall regatta on Sunday (Sept. 14) at Belleville Lake. The Wolverines will host Michigan State and Notre Dame, with races beginning at 10 a.m.
"It's good to get out and scrimmage some quality teams to get a sense of where we are," head coach Mark Rothstein said. "We've got a lot of new faces this year and I think Sunday will give us a sense of where our starting place is."
Michigan's other home event this fall will be the annual Michigan Classic on Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m. against the men's club rowing program.
The Wolverines will make two trips to Florida during the winter training months, travelling to Orlando to compete against host Central Florida and Tennessee on Feb. 14-15. Michigan will then make its annual spring break trip to the Hillsborough River in Tampa, where they will compete against Miami on March 7.
U-M will open the spring season against two of the top rowing programs in the nation, Princeton and Brown in Princeton, N.J., on March 28. Both programs finished in the top 10 at the 2014 NCAA Rowing Championships.
The Wolverines will take part in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge with a trip to perennial national power Virginia to take on both UVA and Clemson on April 4.
"We start the spring season with two really strong opponents in Princeton and Brown and then the next weekend we get to go to Virginia to race some really fast ACC schools," Rothstein said. "We're definitely going to start our schedule off with a bang and I find that's a nice incentive for our athletes in the winter when they're training."
The following weekend, Michigan hosts its first event of the spring season a morning race against Indiana, followed by an afternoon session against Iowa on April 11. The team will travel to defending national champion Ohio State on April 25 to take on the Buckeyes and Syracuse before wrapping up the regular season at Belleville Lake against Louisville on May 2.
Michigan will travel to Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. on May 16-17 for the Big Ten Rowing Championships. The Wolverines are seeking their eighth straight appearance at the NCAA Rowing Championships, to be held at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif., on May 29-31.
