Following the signing of U-M's third recruiting class, all nine members are being featured in a student-athlete spotlight, breaking down each future Wolverine, on and off the field.
Megan Schulte is a four-time varsity letterwinner (2011-14) and recently completed her final season at Loyola Academy (Wilmette, Illinois) this past fall (lacrosse is a fall sport in Illinois). She helped lead Loyola to three straight Illinois state titles (2011-13). Schulte was high school teammates with current Wolverine Anna Schueler as a freshman and sophomore.
As a senior, she was named the womenslax.com Midwest Showcase Team MVP. During her junior season, she recorded 20 goals and 10 assists, en route to helping Loyola capture its third straight Illinois state title. Following the season she earned US Lacrosse Academic All-America, Midwest Under Armour All-America, All-Conference and All-State honorable mention accolades.
As a sophomore, she notched 18 goals and eight assists for Loyola on its run to its second consecutive state championship. She was named a Midwest Under Armour All-American and an All-Conference selection. That summer she was invited to the Northstar Invitational in Lake Placid, New York, where she helped lead her team to the tournament championship. Schulte was also selected to represent the Illinois/Wisconsin regional team at the US Lacrosse National Tournament.
During her freshman year, she led the junior varsity team in draw controls and caused turnovers before being called up to the varsity team for the final four games of the season. She was a member of the varsity team that won the Illinois state title that season.
The right-handed midfielder played club lacrosse for XTEAM. In addition to lacrosse, Schulte also played one year of basketball (2011) at Loyola.
Megan will continue a Michigan Athletics tradition in the Schulte family as her father, Timothy Schulte, played football at Michigan under Bo Schembechler (1983-87). Her mother, Alison Schulte, also has Big Ten ties as she attended Indiana University.
Off the field, Schulte is a member of the Dumbach Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and LAST (Loyola Academy Service Team), and is also a Loyola Scholar.

What attracted you to the University of Michigan?
"The pride everyone has for Michigan is huge and I wanted to be a part something so special. I love the energetic atmosphere and the strong connections students have with the school. Every time I wear a Michigan shirt, someone always says "Go Blue" as I walk by. It's a great feeling knowing I get to be part of this incredible tradition."
What are your thoughts about continuing to help Michigan build its women's lacrosse program?
"I feel so privileged that I am able to be part of building a new tradition at Michigan. Lacrosse has been a big part of my life and now I get to not only share it with my new teammates, but also be a part of making it possible for years to come for many others."
What do you like about Michigan/Ann Arbor from what you've seen so far?
"I love the campus because it's a perfect mix of downtown and college campus. No matter what time of day, it's full of life."
What is your favorite lacrosse moment of all-time?
"Hands down, winning State last year. The whole team worked so hard during the season, but also during the offseason, which made the difference. Months of preparation went into that one 50-minute game, and winning it as a team just makes everything we worked so hard for that much more rewarding. This year we hope to repeat again -- to continue the senior tradition at Loyola."
How did you first get involved in lacrosse?
"I didn't even know lacrosse was a sport until eighth grade. I played soccer my whole life, but when my dad found out about it, it looked fun and I decided to try it. I really liked it but wasn't sure if I wanted to give up soccer, because in Illinois soccer and lacrosse are the same season. In the end, I decided it was time for a change and I am so happy I chose lacrosse over soccer."
Who is your role model, and why?
"My dad is my role model. He has taught me to never give up on anything I set my mind to. He is always there for me and tries to make my life as fulfilling and meaningful as possible. Sometimes we fight, but at the end of the day I know he does everything out of love, because he only wants what is best for me. I look up to my dad and someday I hope to embody the qualities he portrays, not only in word, but also in action."
What do you enjoy doing when you're not playing lacrosse?
"When I'm not playing lacrosse I like to hang out with my friends and family. I am such a competitive person at heart that I make a game out of everything. Who can finish their meal first or win a staring contest. They are such little things, but all my friends have learned to embrace it and play along with me."
