EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan rowing team wrapped up its fall season today with novice-only racing against Michigan State at Grand River Park in East Lansing this morning (Oct. 25).
The two teams competed in five racing segments (pieces) at four minutes each, with a capped stroke rate of 24/minute. The Wolverines fielded two novice eight boats to compete against two from Michigan State, with each team switching lineups in the second novice eight boat during the day.
Michigan's first novice eight boat won all five pieces, and the second novice eight finished ahead of the Michigan State 2N8 for third place in four of the five racing segments, with a tie in the third segment.
"We just have such an incredible group of athletes that love to work hard and have amazing team camaraderie," said novice coach Krystina Sarff. "They truly enjoy pulling hard together for Michigan!"
Michigan will now begin preparations for winter training, which take the Wolverines indoors onto the erg machines before the start of the spring season.
