
Morgan Earns Academic All-District Nod

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fifth-year senior linebacker Desmond Morgan of the 16th-ranked University of Michigan football team was voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 5 team, announced on Thursday (Nov. 5).
A three-year letterwinner, Morgan has appeared in 42 career games, with 36 starts. He has accumulated a team-leading 278 tackles, 15.5 tackles-for-loss, nine pass breakups, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Morgan appeared in one game in 2014, registering six tackles against Appalachian State before missing the rest of the season due to injury. In 2013, Morgan started all 13 games and registered 79 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 1.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. To date, he has tallied at least four tackles in 38 of his last 40 regular-season games.
Off the field, Morgan is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and has earned an Athletic Academic Achievement award at U-M. As a secondary education major set to graduate in December with a focus on social studies, Morgan has spent time at local schools volunteering with young students.
Each year, CoSIDA recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-DistrictTM honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be announced later this month. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution, and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
Michigan kicks off against Rutgers University this Saturday (Nov. 7) at 3:30 p.m. in Ann Arbor. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network.
