ORLANDO, Fla. -- Freshman Gabe Tishman fell in a three-set match in the singles main draw quarterfinals, ending the University of Michigan men's tennis team's run in the 2015 Collegiate Clay Court Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 7) at the Wide World of Sports Complex.
Tishman fell to Jose Sangroniz of Central Florida in the quarterfinals, winning the first set (6-4) before dropping the next two (6-2, 7-6). The deciding third set went to a tiebreaker, where Sangroniz escaped with a 7-5 win to advance to the semifinals.
Fellow freshman Myles Schalet won his first match over Louisville's Alex Gornet in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) but bowed out in the next round in a 6-4, 7-6 loss to Baylor's Jimmy Bendeck.
Sophomore Runhao Hua rounded out Michigan's singles participants, as he picked up a win in singles consolation action. Hua and Tishman paired as a doubles team but lost their only match.
The remainder of Michigan's team is participating at the Big Ten Indoor Tennis Tournament this weekend (Nov. 6-9) in Iowa City.
