SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The 21st-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team continued its 2015 indoor season at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational today (Friday, Feb. 6) inside the Loftus Center. The Wolverines mostly competed in qualifying events today, with three field events and seven running event titles on the line in tomorrow's (Saturday, Feb. 7) action but still set four PRs.
Fifth-year senior Amber Smith (8.54), junior Cindy Ofili (8.26) and sophomore Sami Michell (8.56) each advanced to the 60-meter hurdles semifinals, but it was Ofili (8.11) and Smith (8.44) advancing to tomorrow's final despite the PR for Michell. Wolverine alum Tiffany (Ofili) Porter will be seeded first tomorrow after her meet-record 7.99-second performance in the semifinals. Cindy Ofili also qualified in the 60m dash, running 7.42, which approaches her personal and program-best time of 7.37.
Senior Chinyere Onimo set a PR in the 600m race by more than one second and placed third in the event.
In the 5,000m race, junior Olivia Brackett (15th) and sophomore/freshman Corinne Florie (20th) both recorded top-20 performances.
The Maize and Blue will resume competition tomorrow morning with running events beginning at 10 a.m. and field events beginning a half-hour later.
