NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior Nolan Novak, senior Stacey Ervin and freshman Dmitri Belanovski of the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team each earned All-America honors -- with a runner-up finish for Novak on pommel horse and third-place ties on floor for Ervin and Belanovski on high bar -- at the 2015 NCAA Individual Event Finals Saturday (April 11) at Oklahoma's Lloyd Noble Center.
Ervin earned his fourth All-America honor of his career to begin U-M's night, as he featured a sky-high Arabian double pike half out with a tiny hop and followed with a wide arm press into a back two-and-a-half to punch. He then had a back 5/2 to punch rudi stuck and finished up with a perfect layout Thomas and an Arabian double front tuck with just a small hop for a 15.575 that tied for third.
After a ninth-place finish from senior Adrian de los Angeles on pommels with a 13.425, Novak stepped up in the No. 10 spot and earned the first All-America citation of his career. His set featured a scissor full travel to the center of the horse and then picked up into a single pommel sequence. He then traveled to the end of the horse and immediately followed with a solid Wu, Tong Fei, Magyar, Sivado and triple Russian dismount to register a 14.775.
Belanovski closed out U-M's season in style with a third-place 15.025 on high bar for his first All-America citation of his career. He opened up his set with four consecutive releases mounting with a Yamawaki and then a big Kolman followed by two Tkatchev combinations. He finished with a half Takamoto, stalder, stalder Higgins to el grip, inverted giant and then a stuck full twisting double layout.
The competition wraps up U-M's efforts at the NCAA Championships, where Michigan earned a fourth-place team finish and had three All-Americans.
