U-M picked up a pair of top-10 finishes and one event title (10,000m) on Friday's (May 15) first day of action.
With her win in the 10,000m race, sophomore Erin Finn has successfully earned back-to-back conference titles in the event, making her the second Wolverine to repeat as a conference champion this season (Cindy Ofili; 60m hurdles; Indoor).
Erin Finn is the first Michigan runner to win the 10K race in back-to-back seasons since Mindy Rowand accomplished the feat in 1989-90. She is also the first Wolverine to win back-to-back outdoor titles in any event since Emily Pendleton won the discus in both 2007 and 2008. She is the first to win back-to-back track titles since Tiffany Ofili won the 100m hurdles in both 2006 and 2007.
Erin Finn is the fifth 10,000m champ in Wolverine history, and her win gives U-M seven titles in the event overall.
All three Wolverines in the 10,000m race earned top-12 finishes, but they also had another first in common. For Erin Finn, Gina Sereno and Corinne Florie, today's (Friday, May 15) 10K marked their first 10,000m race of the season.
Sophomore Gina Sereno as well as freshmen Bailey Baker and Kayla Deering made their outdoor Big Ten Championships debuts today.
