ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman thrower Kayla Deering from the University of Michigan women's track and field team will compete in the USA Junior Outdoor Championships on Friday (June 26) at the University of Oregon's Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, the site of the recent NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 10-13).
Deering is making her first trip to Track Town USA, throwing shot put in the junior division.
Fresh off her completed freshman year, Deering, a native of Pigeon, Michigan, will attempt to build on her continued shot put improvement at the junior national meet. At the Big Ten Outdoor Championships (May 17), she burst onto the scene by scoring in seventh place with a throw of 50-10.25 ft. (15.50m).
The meet will serve as the Team USA qualifier for the Pan Am Games, scheduled for July 10-26 in Toronto, Canada.
