Ofili to Compete for Great Britain at British Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Having recently declared her athletic eligibility for Team Great Britain, junior sprinter/hurdler Cindy Ofili will compete at Sainsbury's British Championships on Saturday (July 4) at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, England.
Ofili will compete in the 100-meter hurdles race along with her older sister and former Wolverine Tiffany (Ofili) Porter (2006-09). The younger Ofili now owns the seventh-fastest 100m hurdles time in the world, while her older sister is fourth (12.56), according to the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), a time she set at the NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 13), where she finished as the national runner-up. That podium finish is U-M's best by any individual since Porter's final title as a Wolverine in 2009.
That race was historic for Ofili, as she broke her sister's program record (12.73) in impressive fashion, improving her lifetime best by more than .20 seconds just two days after setting the new Michigan standard in the 100m dash with an 11.39.
Ofili will now compete alongside her sister on the international stage. In addition to the opportunity to claim a British championship, the meet also serves as the Team Great Britain qualifier for this year's IAAF World Championships, to be held from Aug. 22-30 at the National Stadium in Beijing, China.
Alum Nicole (Sifuentes) Edwards (2005-08) will also be in competition this weekend, running at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Edmonton, Alberta. Edwards will compete in the 1,500m run, the event she represented Canada in during the Olympic Games in 2012. Qualifying action will be Thursday (July 2) at 12:50 p.m. MDT, with the semifinal race scheduled for Friday (July 3) at 6:45 p.m. MDT, and the final being run one day later at 7 p.m. MDT.
