ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (1-1-0) hits the road for the first time this season against former CCHA foe Ferris State (0-4-0) on Saturday night (Oct. 15, 7:05 p.m.) at Ewigleben Ice Arena.
• Michigan and Ferris State have met every year since the 1981-82 season, and Michigan owns a 69-30-4 record in the series. Michigan's 5-2 win in Ann Arbor last season snapped a three-game winless streak in the series. U-M is 24-20-4 on the road in the series but has gone winless (0-2-1) over the last three games in Big Rapids, last winning in 2011.
• The Wolverines and Bulldogs were CCHA rivals for 32 years, from 1981-2013, meeting 95 times in conference play over that span. Red Berenson has coached against Bob Daniels 63 times, dating back to the beginning of Daniels' tenure at Ferris State in 1992. Berenson has more wins (43) against Daniels than any other coach in his career.
• Michigan won last season's meeting, 5-2, thanks to two goals from freshman forward Kyle Connor and a great performance from Steve Racine. JT Compher picked up his 100th career point in the contest, becoming the 84th player in Michigan history to reach the century mark. Alex Kile, Tyler Motte and Zach Werenski also added goals in the win.
• Michigan's freshman class looks to continue contributing after a big weekend that featured a two-goal performance from James Sanchez as well as a shutout from Hayden Lavigne in his career debut. Will Lockwood (1 goal, 1 assist) and Jake Slaker (1 assist) also notched points on the weekend.
• Freshman netminder Hayden Lavigne enters the weekend after garnering Big Ten honors as the Second Star of the Week for his shutout performance against Union last Saturday. He joins Al Montoya, Marty Turco and Josh Blackburn as the only Wolverine goalies in the Berenson era to notch a shutout in their Michigan debut.
UP AHEAD: Michigan returns home to take on Michigan Tech and will be honoring the 1996 national championship team on Friday night during the Weekend of Champions festivities. Brandon Morrison's overtime goal defeated Colorado College, 3-2, on March 30, 1996, to win the progra's first NCAA ice hockey championship for Michigan in 32 years. Tickets are still available for each game.
