
Singles Shine on Second Day of Wolverine Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team grabbed four-of-five singles matches from Washington to highlight the second day of competition at the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 15) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan picked up a doubles win against Princeton as freshman Chiara Lommer and junior Alex Najarian took advantage of a break at 4-2 to take a 6-3 win. Junior Kara Hall teamed with Sara Culbertson from Miami to grab a 7-6 (5) win over Princeton to round out Michigan's doubles winners.
The Wolverines were stellar in singles action, winning four matches against the Huskies. Lommer was first off court, winning a 6-0, 6-0 decision at the No. 2 slot.
Najarian grinded out a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot, with junior Mira Ruder-Hook completing a second-set comeback for a 6-0, 7-6 (5) victory at No. 4. Ruder-Hook was down 4-0 to start the second before she mounted her comeback.
Sophomore Brienne Minor completed the day on a victorious note for the Maize and Blue, winning 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. Minor was up a break at 5-3 and serving for the match but was broken in her service game. She wasted no time in returning the favor, sealing the match in the next game.
Michigan concludes the Wolverine Invitational tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 16) at the Varsity Tennis Center. Princeton and Washington will face each other in singles at 9 a.m., with Michigan beginning doubles play against Washington at noon. The Wolverines will then square off against Miami in singles following the completion of doubles.
