ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan ice hockey team plays its annual exhibition contest against the U.S. National Team Development Program U-18 team on Friday night (Oct. 18, 7:30 p.m.) at Yost Ice Arena.
Michigan hosts the U.S. NTDP U-18 Team for the 17th time in as many seasons, holding a 14-2-0 record all-time in the series. Michigan has won the last two, while the U-18 Team pulled out a 5-4 OT victory in 2013.
Last season, the Wolverines used four third-period goals to pull away from the U-18 team with a 5-2 victory. Tyler Motte and Tony Calderone each scored twice, with Max Shuart adding the fifth. Zach Nagelvoort stopped 22 of 23 shots in the victory, with Chad Catt adding eight saves in relief.
The NTDP has produced several Michigan players over the years, including senior Evan Allen, sophomores Nick Boka and Brendan Warren, and freshmen Will Lockwood, Griffin Luce, Luke Martin, Nick Pastujov and James Sanchez.
Two current members of the development team, Josh Norris and Michael Pastujov, signed their National Letters of Intent to join the Michigan hockey program next season.
The program is based out of USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. While enrolled in the NTDP, players stay with billet families and most take classes at Ann Arbor Pioneer HS.
UP AHEAD: The Wolverines will conclude their five game homestand next weekend when they play host to in-state foe Lake Superier State (Nov. 25-26). Both contests on that Thanksgiving weekend are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The last time U-M faced off against Lake Superior State was during the 2012-13 season in Sault Ste. Marie. Michigan split the series with the Lakers, winning Friday night, 6-4, but falling on Saturday, 3-2.
