
Michigan to Continue Homestand with Vermont on Saturday

The University of Michigan women's basketball team (9-3) continues its homestand on Saturday (Dec. 17), hosting Vermont (3-6) at noon. Michigan is in the midst of four straight games at Crisler Center.
• Junior Katelynn Flaherty passed senior Siera Thompson for first place on the career three-pointers list after hitting three to Thompson's two against Ohio (Dec. 13). Flaherty now has 218 for her career, with Thompson right behind at 217. They are two of three Wolverines (Carmen Reynolds) to top 200 three-pointers in a career. The duo also is among the NCAA active career leaders for three-point field goal percentage, as Thompson ranks eighth at 39.5 percent and Flaherty comes in at No. 9 (39.3).
• Michigan is No. 17 in the latest edition of the NCAA RPI, ranking second in the Big Ten behind Minnesota (No. 15).
• The Catamounts (3-6) come to Ann Arbor after losing two straight games. Vermont is averaging 55.6 points per game on 29.0 percent shooting and features one double-figure scorer in Sydney Smith (10.4 ppg). It is the first meeting between the Wolverines and Catamounts.
• Vermont is one of six first-time opponents for the Wolverines this season. U-M faced Howard, Georgia Tech, Winthrop and Gonzaga for the first time in school history as part of the non-conference schedule. In addition to the Catamounts, U-M will face American for the first time next week (Thursday, Dec. 22).
• Sophomore Hallie Thome has seen no drop off in her sophomore campaign as she is averaging 12.7 points per game on 63.7 percent shooting. The 6-5 sophomore is also second on the team in rebounding (6.3 rpg) and leads U-M in blocks (25).
• Senior Siera Thompson turned in the second double-double of her career in Michigan's win over Ohio (Dec. 13), going for 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. It came on the heels of her first career double-double at San Diego State, when she recorded 11 points and 11 assists. Thompson's 11 assists were a career high and mark the highest total by a Big Ten player this season. She is up to 437 for her career, coming in at No. 3. She joins Shannon Smith and Carol Szczechowski as Wolverines with a point-assist double-double and a point-rebound double-double.
• Freshman Kysre Gondrezick has scored in double figures in seven of Michigan's 12 games after leading U-M with 18 at No. 9 UCLA (Dec. 11). Gondrezick leads the Wolverines in free throw attempts (38), is second in three-pointers made (25) and third in scoring (12.5 ppg). Michigan has had a freshman score in double figures in each of the last three seasons in Siera Thompson (13.2), Katelynn Flaherty (14.3 ppg) and Hallie Thome (14.4 ppg).
