NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team scored more than 197.000 for the third time this season in a loss at No. 1 Oklahoma on Friday (Feb. 26) at the Lloyd Noble Center.
The Wolverines rebounded well from last Friday (Feb. 19) when they recorded their lowest total of the season. Posting a 197.275 is a significant road score for U-M as it continues to get closer and closer to the postseason.
While U-M had its top road total of the year, the hometown Sooners showed why they were No. 1, scoring a 198.075.
Michigan recorded a season high on vault with a 49.350. Freshman Olivia Karas matched her career high with a 9.95 to finish second in the event. Junior Talia Chiarelli notched her second 9.90 or better on vault of the year to help the team hit their top mark.
The nation's third-ranked team on floor looked brilliant, scoring a 49.500 for the third time this year. Karas followed her 9.95 on vault with a 9.95 on floor to match a career high there as well. Chiarelli matched Karas for a season-high 9.95. In between the two, junior Nicole Artz scored 9.90 to give her a 9.90 or better for the sixth time this year on floor.
Another bright spot on the night was sophomore Lauren Marinez on beam. She set a new career high with a 9.925.
Michigan still has some areas to grow as the season winds down but earning an impressive score on the road was a step in a positive direction.
That. Was. Unbelievable!!!! Talia with a season-high 9.95 on floor. Third time we have hit 49.500 on floor this year. #GoBlue
