Juniors Jess Angerman, Tess Korten, Margaret Metzger and Anna Schueler, who were named the first captains in program history, will alternate blogging each week to keep fans up to date on Team Three. In this edition, Jess recaps U-M's spring trip in California and explains this week's motto in practice of "going back to basics".
Welcome back Michigan fans!
I'm happy to be able to bring you Team Three's spring break wrap up, including a look into of our first few days back at practice in The Big House! After a much-anticipated move out of Oosterbaan Field House and into the Big House for practices and games, spirits are high heading into our third and final road game in a row against High Point University in North Carolina.
As it always does, Spring Break provided an opportunity for our team to focus on ourselves and our relationships, as well as our mindset heading into the rest of the season. Spirits were high and we genuinely enjoyed our chance to travel and our time together in California, however, we found ourselves struggling in an awkward limbo during our contest against USC. Unfortunately some days, for whatever external reasons a team just isn't clicking on all cylinders -- so we're going to chalk USC up to a bad day. But we did take something away from that game -- we're going back to basics.
Something our team can always rely on in times of adversity is energy and passion, between each other and in playing the game. We were graced with two sunny and 65 degree days in a row for our first practices back in The Big House, so there was only one way to celebrate: scrimmage. Two days of high-intensity and high-energy scrimmaging with minimal coaching seemed to be exactly what the doctor ordered. We were able to work out some kinks and just focus on the basics of playing together and smart, as well as restoring some team chemistry on the field. As a member of the maize team, I'll reluctantly give props to the blue team for two solid wins and some of the most creative sideline celebrations I've ever seen. Hopefully the fans will get a chance to witness Allie Breitfeller "bench press" a lacrosse stick or a team rowboat after a goal at one of our games this year.
As much fun as we had in California and the first few days back in The Big House, a full week of practice couldn't have come at a better time as we look to turn the rest of our season into an opportunity to improve and compete game-by-game. As we find ourselves sitting 4-3 and Big Ten play right around the corner, we know it's now or never if we're going to make an impact and compete in the Big Ten and with top-ranked teams.

Thanks for checking in and Go Blue!
#5 Jess
