Juniors Jess Angerman, Tess Korten, Margaret Metzger and Anna Schueler, who were named the first captains in program history, will alternate blogging each week to keep fans up to date on Team Three. In this edition, Anna discusses a new tradition started at last weekend's team celebration, some impressive internships members of Team Three landed for the summer, and the excitement of the team being able to focus solely on lacrosse with final exams complete.
Hey Michigan Fans!
With little time left as Team Three and summer quickly approaching, the 2016 Team Celebration last weekend provided us captains an opportunity to start some new traditions for Michigan women's lacrosse. The creative and sarcastic mind of fellow captain Jess Angerman, thought of the clever idea of paper plate awards for our freshman class (and classes to follow). For those of you unfamiliar with paper plate awards, they are simply awards created by the captains and then "beautifully" portrayed on paper plates.
Some awards included: Sarah Mehlman's "Most Hours Logged in the Academic Center" Award, since you will never walk into the academic center and not see her; Mira Shane's, "Most Likely to Purchase Shoes from Ace Hardware" Award -- given to Mira to recognize her fashionista status as she wears colorful clogs to and from practice every day. There were many highlights at the banquet, like another one of Torrey Taylor's (our video coordinator) fantastic end of the year videos, but I think we stole the show if I do say so myself.
With summer there comes the opportunity for much needed rest, but also the opportunity for Team Three to up its game -- stick work, conditioning, shooting and dodging. This summer is the time to get better individually, and for this program to go in the right direction, we must take advantage of the offseason time. Team One members have one season left, one more opportunity to make a statement for our program and this great University. There will be many of us staying this spring term, where we will be getting ahead on classes and also working out as a team with Coach Jackson (Strength & Conditioning). There are also some team members who have landed some impressive internships: Sophie duPhily will be working for NBC Olympics, Lauren Oberlander will be in New York City working for the NHL, Lauren Pryor will be working for TracyLocke, an ad agency in Wilton, Connecticut, and Allie Breitfeller will be working for Dow Jones, also in New York City.
With much to look forward to this summer, we must keep in mind that there is a lot of season left to be played this year. This weekend brings our final Big Ten regular-season game at Rutgers. This game will determine our seed in the Big Ten Tournament the following week. With a few members of the team wrapping of their last final exams today (!), we are excited to be 100 percent focused on lacrosse in the weeks ahead, hoping to make a statement and end on a high note, preparing for Team Four next fall.
