ANN ABOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball program has announced its four summer camps for the upcoming July and August months. Open to players ages 6-18, the camps will take place at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium, and are designed to give players both mental and physical tools in an effort to reach their maximum potential.
The first camp of the summer will take place from July 17-20 and is open to players ages 6-12. The morning sessions will involve offensive and defensive stations, with competitions following in the afternoon. Michigan will also host another youth camp from Aug. 10-12, focusing on the same skill development. The following week, Michigan will host players ages 12-18 in the team's Wolverine Experience Camp (July 25-28), which is the most comprehensive camp of the summer. Players will learn what it is like to be a Michigan baseball player for four days, as the camp has practice sessions in teams with live competition on the field throughout the week. At the end of the week, players will receive a hand written evaluation of ways to take their game to the next level.
The fourth and final camp of the summer is scheduled for Aug. 13-14 and is open to players between the ages of 12 and 18. The Mid-August Showcase is designed to allow players to showcase their abilities in front of the top schools in the region, and is one of the best showcases in the Midwest every summer. Players will go through a pro-style workout, participate in live games, undergo speed and agility tests, and also learn about the way Michigan plays and practices the game of baseball.
The camp staff will include Michigan college coaches who will conduct specifically designed sessions that focus on mental preparation, strategy and the keys becoming a better player. Led by Michigan baseball head coach Erik Bakich and his staff, each camp puts a great emphasis on player safety and attention to detail. Staff ratios are some of the best in the country at better than one to eight.
Enrollment will be limited in order to maximize personal attention. Players will be grouped according to age, physical maturity, previous experience and overall ability. The primary goal is to instruct all players on proper mechanics to maximize performance.
The cost of each camp varies based on length and training. Visit the Michigan baseball camp page to learn more.
Camp check-in will begin one hour prior to the start of a camper's first session. Players will be required to bring their own baseball gloves, cleats, bats and helmets.
