ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior outfielder Cody Bruder of the University of Michigan baseball team was named to the Capital One Academic All-District first team on Thursday (May 5) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He will now advance to the national Academic All-America ballot.
Bruder represents one of two Big Ten student-athletes named to the all-district team from region five, which encompasses the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
An evolutionary anthropology major from Corona, California, Bruder currently ranks second on the Michigan team with a .366 batting average and 41 runs batted in. He owns a .417 on-base percentage with a .457 slugging average and has started all 43 games for the Wolverines in the center-fielder position. Since joining Michigan as a junior transfer for the 2015 season, Bruder has a .337 career batting average in 102 games played. During the 2015 campaign, he was selected to the All-Louisville Regional and Big Ten All-Tournament teams while also earning a U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award. He graduated just last week with a degree in evolutionary anthropology, focusing in zoology and the environment.
Michigan has garnered nine Academic All-America awards in program history, most recently placing Kyle Bohm (second team) and Matt Butler (third team) on the list in 2005.
With an 31-12 record in hand, the Wolverines will return to action on Friday (May 6) when they play host to the visiting Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the final Big Ten home series of the 2016 campaign. First pitch for Friday's contest is slated for 6 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor.
