Wagner Selected to Preseason All-Big Ten Team

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- For the sixth straight season the University of Michigan men's basketball team will have a representative on the All-Big Ten Preseason team after junior Moritz Wagner was selected to the 10-player team today (Thursday, Oct. 19) at the conference's annual media day held in New York at Madison Square Garden.
Wagner, an All-Big Ten honorable mention honoree last season, emerged as an offensive threat in his second season with U-M averaging 12.1 points and shooting 39.5 percent from long range (45-for-114). He helped the Wolverines to their dramatic postseason run to the 2017 Big Ten Tournament title and subsequent drive to the NCAAÂ Sweet 16 for the third time in last five years. After applying for early entry to the 2017 NBA Draft, Wagner withdrew to return for a third season in Ann Arbor.
Last season, he was one of three Wolverines to start all 38 games. He collected 158 rebounds (4.2 rpg) and produced his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds at Indiana (Feb. 2). He posted five games of 20-plus points with a career-best 26 in U-M's NCAA second-round upset win over No. 2 seed Louisville, going 11-for-14 from the field.
This summer Wagner played with his native county of Germany in the FIBA U20 European Championships. Starting for of his seven games, he averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals in 20.3 minutes per game.
Michigan fans can meet Wagner and the rest of the 2017-18 squad at Selfie Night at Crisler Center on Tuesday, Oct. 24, and get the first glimpse of game action in U-M's only exhibition against Grand Valley State, Friday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.
