WILMINGTON, N.C. -- As heavy rains fell overnight and continued throughout the morning, the University of Michigan women's golf team waited through two rain delays today (Sunday, Oct. 29) before the Landfall Tradition's final round was cancelled, giving the Wolverines an 11th-place finish with a 593 total in their fall finale.
"We were very disappointed not to be able to tee it up today," said U-M head coach Jan Dowling. "Our players are tough with good attitudes, and hard conditions suit us well. I really thought we would make a nice jump today. Overall, we had plenty of positives to inspire us in our winter training. And we know exactly what we need to do to improve. We are looking forward to putting in some much-needed work and getting back at it in February."
Competing in their second straight loaded field, the Wolverines had a solid start, opening with a 297 in Friday's 18 holes led by junior Elodie Van Dievoet's third sub-par round of the season at 71 (-1). In the second round Saturday, senior Kathy Lim paced the Maize and Blue with her even-par 72, while senior Emily White and freshman Ashley Kim each added 74s to give U-M a 296.
For just the second time in her career and for the first time since 2016, Lim finished as the top Wolverine in an event, tying for 23rd at 146 (74-72). White used rounds of 75 and 74 to tie for 39th at 149, while Van Dievoet tied for 55th at 151 (71-80).
Sophomore Hannah Ghelfi made her first career start and tied for 69th with a 153 total (77-76).
The 18-team field at the Landfall Tradition featured every team ranked among the top 100, with nine schools in the top 25. U-M made its return to the event after a nine-year absence.
With the fall season completed, the Wolverines will shift their focus to the offseason training period over the next three months. U-M will not compete again until February, when it travels to Melbourne, Florida, Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 19-20, for Louisville's Moon Golf Invitational. The two-day event will be held at Duran Golf Club.
