WOLVERINE BITES
• Michigan will compete at the UGA Fall Invite for the second consecutive year. Last year, the team finished sixth, amassing 40 NCAA "B" times and a pair of NCAA Zone Diving qualifying scores.
It was without Paul Powers, PJ Ransford, Evan White, Felix Auböck and Mokhtar Al-Yamani, who did not swim due to their participation at the FINA World Swimming Championships.
• The Wolverines were ranked No. 4 in the most recent TYR/CSCAA Division I Coaches Poll, released on Nov. 8. The next poll is released Dec. 6. [ Poll ]
• Distance swimmers Felix Auböck and Ricardo Vargas still rank first and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle, respectively, with unsuited, unrested times. The performances are striking considering more than half of the Big Ten (Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State, Northwestern) already swam in their midseason meets.
• Four divers have already qualified for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships in March. Leading the way is sophomore Jake Herremans, who is the only diver among the four to have qualified in all three events. He also has achieved career-high scores in each event through the first half of the season. [ Diving ]
• So far, Michigan swimmers have accumulated 18 NCAA "B" times in individual events. Sophomore Tommy Cope leads the team with four (100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard IM, 400-yard IM), while Paul Powers, Felix Auböck, Jacob Montague, Evan White, Miles Smachlo and Charlie Swanson each have two. James Peek and Ricardo Vargas each have one. [ Top Times ]
• Head coach Mike Bottom announced the signing of seven individuals to National Letters of Intent on Nov. 13: Andrew Babyak (Bronxville, New York), AJ Bornstein (Ridgefield, Connecticut), Patrick Callan (Owasso, Oklahoma), Will Chan (Davidson, North Carolina), David Cleason (Ann Arbor, Michigan), Michael MacGillivray (Ann Arbor, Michigan) and Ian Miskelley (Holland, Michigan).
