ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will appear on national TV six times in 2018, with three of the five home meets slated for a national audience.
The Wolverines' season opener against Alabama on Jan. 5 will be moved to 5:30 p.m. EST and will be televised on ESPNU. Michigan and Alabama begin the 2018 season ranked in the top 10, with the Crimson Tide listed at No. 4 and the Wolverines at No. 7 in the NACGC/W preseason poll. It will be Michigan's social media night with the first 750 fans receiving a team Bitmoji towel.
The next weekend U-M will once again be on ESPNU. The meet time has moved to 6 p.m. EST on Jan. 13 as Michigan will host Ohio State at Crisler Center. The meet will be the Wolverines' adaptive gymnastics meet with the team working to raise awareness in the community about developmental disabilities.
Senior day on March 10 will feature another matchup of two of the top teams in the country this preseason as No. 5 Utah and No. 7 Michigan clash. U-M will give away senior big heads and blue glow sticks to help send the seniors off in a tremendous atmosphere at Crisler Center.
Michigan will be on BTN three other dates this season. They are on TV the first three meets of the season as they will head to Illinois on Jan. 19 for a 7 p.m. CST conference showdown. The Big Five meet at Rutgers on March 17 is announced for a 5:30 p.m. EDT start. Both sessions of the Big Ten Championships on March 24 in Champaign, Illinois, will be on TV with the first session starting at 2 p.m. CDT and the evening session at 7 p.m. CDT.
