GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Freshmen divers Nikki Canale and Christy Cutshaw of the No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team each qualified for event finals at the 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships, held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The event stretched six days from Dec. 13-18.
Competing in their home state -- Canale is from Waxhaw, Cutshaw from Durham -- each diver held their own against the nation's best. Cutshaw made two finals, teaming with Julia Wortman to finish second in synchronized platform on Monday (440.04) and also finishing eighth on platform (611.15) on Saturday.
Canale made the final on the three-meter springboard, finishing 11th (714.15). She was also 12th on one-meter (214.25).
The Wolverines return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 13, hosting rival Indiana at Canham Natatorium. The combined men's and women's dual meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
