ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's lacrosse head coach Hannah Nielsen announced Sunday (Dec. 24) that transfer student Casey Cummo will join the Wolverines for the 2018 season. The junior defender comes to Ann Arbor after two seasons at the University of Louisville and will be immediately eligible to compete for U-M in 2018.
"I am excited to welcome Casey to Michigan," said Nielsen.
"She enjoyed a lot of success in her time at Louisville and will be a great addition to the defensive end. We are excited for her to join us in the New Year!"
After playing in six games for Louisville as a freshman, Cummo started all 19 games on defense as a sophomore, recording 15 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers and one draw control. She helped the Cardinals go 23-14 in two seasons and advance to the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2016 and 2017. Cummo was named to the ACC Honor Roll as a freshman and sophomore.
The Smithtown, New York, native was a three-year varsity letterwinner in lacrosse at Hauppauge High School. She was a two-time Academic All-American and all-county selection. In 2014, she was a US Lacrosse Girls' All-Academic honoree. Cummo also participated in track and field and soccer at Hauppauge, and she played club lacrosse for the LI Top Guns.
