ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team put on a free show for fans in Crisler Center on Sunday (Dec. 3), as they topped Eastern Michigan in an exhibition meet, 196.125-193.450.
Head coach Bev Plocki was pleased following Sunday's exhibition, giving praise to how her team handled being in Crisler Center for the first time this season.
"It is an opportunity for our team to get on competition equipment in front of judges and fans and have a little fun," said Plocki. "We always make our biggest jump after the first time we compete. Also, the freshmen had a chance to realize how much fun college gymnastics is and had some good routines."
Senior Brianna Brown had the top routine of the day with a 9.925 on bars. After missing most of the regular season a year ago, Brown looks poised to make the most of her senior year, also scoring 9.850 on floor and 9.725 on beam.
Junior captain Emma McLean also reached the 9.900 mark, hitting her floor routine to draw big applause from the crowd.
Michigan's bars rotation was the strongest on the day with a 49.275. Olivia Karas posted a 9.875 to help her win the all-around with a 39.275. She also scored 9.875 on vault.
Freshman Lauren Farley scored a 9.850 on beam to make her presence felt in front of the home fans. Her classmate, Syd Townsend, added a 9.800 on both vault and bars.
The Wolverines provided the fans with something for everyone. Santa Claus greeted children on the concourse prior to the game and season-ticket holders got a chance to meet the team following the meet. During the action, U-M cheerleader Michael Funkhouser kept the atmosphere lively as the in-arena announcer for the second straight season.
