The University of women's gymnastics team will honor the life of Chip Hills and raise awareness for pancreatic cancer research on Sunday (Feb. 26, 1 p.m.) when it hosts Southern Utah at Crisler Center.
MEET INFO
Sunday's meet will be an afternoon matinee with Southern Utah.
Michigan and Southern Utah will meet for the seventh time. U-M has won five of the six previous meetings but lost at Southern Utah a year ago, 196.300-195.750.
This is just the second time Southern Utah has come to Ann Arbor. In 2007 Michigan was victorious, 194.775-188.625 in the second meet of the season.
U-M is ranked No. 9 in the first RQS (Regional Qualifying Score) rankings of the season. The Wolverines are in the top-10 on vault (9th), beam (8th) and floor (7th).
The top-ranked individuals on each event are sophomore Emma McLean on vault (T-18th), junior Paige Zaziski on bars (T-8th), Lauren Marinez on beam (T-22) and Nicole Artz on floor (8th).
PROMOTIONS
Flip for Chip -- Join the Michigan Women's Gymnastics team in their second annual Flip for Chip Meet as we honor the life of Chip Hills, father of Michigan student assistant Cailee Hills, while raising awareness for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Giveaway -- Michigan Athletics Purple LED light sticks (first 2,500 fans).
Short Person Appreciation -- Visit the marketing table located on the concourse outside of section 136. If you are shorter than the women's gymnastics cutout, you will receive a free ticket to the Michigan vs. Oklahoma meet on Saturday, March 4, at 4 p.m and a voucher for a free popcorn; while supplies last.
Postmeet Autographs -- Meet your favorite gymnasts as select members of the team will be signing autographs following the conclusion of the meet.
LAST TIME OUT
Michigan won its fifth straight, matching a season high with a 197.225 vs. N.C. State.
The Wolverines won all four events and the all-around. including the top six finishers on beam and top five on both bars and floor.
McLean was named Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week after winning two events. She competed a Yurchenko 1 /2 for the first time on vault and stuck it for a career-high 9.975. She also won floor with a 9.900.
Zaziski won bars with a 9.950 and Talia Chiarelli won beam with a 9.925.
Freshman Lexi Funk was the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after scoring 9.825 or better on all three of her events. She had a season-best 9.875 to lead off floor.
