WOLVERINE BITES
• Michigan is coming off a pair of wins last week that helped the Wolverines improve to 3-7 on the season. U-M defeated Detroit, 21-11, and followed that up with the program's first Big Ten win in its conference opener at Ohio State, 12-11, in overtime. It also marked U-M's first win over Ohio State in program history. Lauren Oberlander led U-M with four goals in the OSU win, while Kim Coughlan scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal in overtime.
• Michigan has had a player join the 100 career goal club in each of the last three games, becoming the first three players in program history to reach the milestone. Coughlan was the first against Canisius (March 12), Jess Angerman followed against Detroit (March 15), and Anna Schueler joined the club at Ohio State (March 18). Coughlan has a program-best 108 goals, while Angerman has 101, and Schueler has 100.
• Angerman holds the program record for career points with 152, while Schueler has 142, Coughlan has 123, and Tess Korten has 116. In their four years at Michigan, that group of four has combined to score 66 percent of U-M's goals (397-of-594) and tally 69 percent of its overall points (533-of-776).
• After recording one goal and one assist in the first three games combined, Angerman has tallied 16 goals and 12 assists in the last six games. During that stretch, she has had at least three points in each game. Angerman matched her career high of seven points (3G, 4A) against Detroit, and has dished out four assists in each of the last two games. She now ranks third in the Big Ten in assists per game, averaging 1.44 per outing, and is tied for eighth in points per game with 3.33.
• Schueler is the only U-M player to tally at least one point in all 10 games this season, recording a total of 14 goals and 11 assists. She has had two or more goals in five games and had multiple assists in three games.
• Michigan is second in the Big Ten and 20th in the NCAA in draw controls per game, averaging 14.5, behind Penn State's 15.3 per game. The Wolverines have won the draw control battle in eight of 10 games and were also even in one game. Overall, the Wolverines have 145 draw controls on the season, while their opponents have 105 (10.5/game). Coughlan has taken the majority of U-M's draws, while several other Wolverines are options on the draw, including Schueler, Mae Tarr and Molly Garrett.
• Schueler has a team-high 48 draw controls this season, after recording four in both games last week, and holds the program record for career draw controls with 197, which is more than double any other player in program history. She is third in the Big Ten and 26th in the NCAA, averaging 4.8 per game this season. Schueler's personal record for draw controls in a single season was 54 during her freshman season in 2014.
• Michigan continues to lead the Big Ten in caused turnovers per game, averaging 9.9 per outing. Emily Braun has a team-high 14 caused turnovers and is third in the conference with 1.40 per game. With seven games remaining, Braun is just one shy of her 2016 total of 15 caused turnovers. Madeline Dion holds the program record for caused turnovers in a season with 27 during the 2015 season. Braun is also averaging 2.20 ground balls per game, which rank eighth in the Big Ten.
• Goalies Alli Kothari (1-7) and Mira Shane (2-0) have both seen significant time in cage this season. Shane earned the decisions in both of Michigan's wins last week. She played 38 minutes, making seven key saves in U-M's win at Ohio State. Kothari has played 424 minutes and recorded a goals-against average of 12.16 and save percentage of .407. Shane has played 180 minutes, earning a goals-against average of 12.61 and a save percentage of .415. Kothari's 15 saves against No. 17 Stanford are tied for the second most by a Big Ten goalie this season.
• Michigan head coach Jennifer Ulehla (1990-91) and Northwestern head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller (1993-96) were both standout players at the University of Maryland but just missed being teammates. Ulehla was a two-time All-American with the Terrapins (1990-91) and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the NCAA Final Four in 1990, while Amonte earned back-to-back national player of the year awards (1995-96). Ulehla and Amonte also went on to play for the U.S. National Team but never played together.
• Northwestern will mark the third ranked opponent the Wolverines have faced this season. Michigan is currently 0-2 against ranked opponents with losses to No. 8 Notre Dame (12-5) and No. 17 Stanford (15-10). U-M will also face nationally ranked Maryland (No. 1) and Penn State (No. 10) next month.
• Sunday's game against Winthrop is the program's annual Youth Lacrosse Day. All local youth teams are invited to attend the game. There will be youth games on the field prior to Michigan's matchup with Winthrop, and select teams will compete on the field during halftime. Ulehla will also do a chalk talk with all youth teams prior to the game. Following the conclusion of the game, fans are invited down onto the field for autographs with the Wolverines, and kids in eighth grade and under can also take a shot on goal. Last year's event was a huge success and helped Michigan set a women's lacrosse attendance record of 902.
