ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan rowing team celebrated Senior Day in style on Sunday morning (April 30), posting a clean six-race sweep against Louisville on its home course at Belleville Lake.
Fighting cold, windy weather and choppy water conditions, the Wolverines claimed victories in all six races Sunday morning -- five of which were won by more than 10 seconds. The sixth featured a Michigan boat
Both the first varsity eight and first varsity four squads were among those double-digit wins, boding well for the teams' fortunes at its next competition, the Big Ten Championships in two weeks' time.
"I feel good about our team, but I feel good about a lot of the teams in the Big Ten," head coach Mark Rothstein said. "It's really strong this year and really fast, and it's the deepest it's ever been. Certainly in the varsity eight event it's the deepest it's ever been. Really, that's probably true of every event. It's going to be a great championship. I think it's going to be the most competitive since I've been coaching."
The first varsity eight boat (Kathryn Boyle [coxswain], Kaitlin Wright, Kendall Brewer, Tayla-May Bentley, Shayla Lamb, Tessa Yurko, Louisa Freeman, Kalia Krichko, Meghan Gutknecht [bow]) covered the two-kilometer course in 6:28.51 to outrace Louisville by more than 14 seconds.

The second varsity eight competition was claimed by Michigan in 6:38.15, nearly 12 seconds ahead of Louisville.
Michigan's fourth varsity four team defeated Louisville's third varsity four team, crossing the line in 7:57.33 to win by more than 42 seconds.
In the first race of the day, the Wolverines' first novice eight boat clocked 6:57.09 to top the Cardinals' third varsity eight boat by nearly 20 seconds.
